The Gymbaroo Program - Child Development Classes

Our child development programs at Seaforth are $220, and $210 at Collaroy - inclusive of insurance per term, neurological handouts, visualisation book, term copy of First Steps Magazine,

We learn lots of massage techniques, exercises for strengthening your baby, vestibular, body awareness, language, music and precious equipment time.

Creepers and Crawlers

Once your baby begins to creep, it means that they are ready for the challenge of the mobile program - less time for massage, and more time for strengthening skills for crawling (and later, walking). We start working on ladders to help them build those muscles needed for walking. Hand skills become more purposeful over the next few months, so lots of activities are done to strengthen these important muscles, later used for writing.

During mat time emphasis is on body awareness as they take part in musical activities by rocking, swaying or singing! Our Gymbaroo staff will help to give you enriching activities and ideas that you can try at home.

13 months to 18 months

They are becoming confident walkers and are experimenting with jumping, balancing and forward rolls. They are developing good awareness of body image so like to negotiate tunnels. During mat time we encourage each child to use his / her own fingers in finger plays and the use of musical instruments independently.

19 months to 2 years

They have now become confident at running, jumping, climbing and balancing. They easily negotiate steps and stand on 1 foot and balance. They have improved muscle control and co-ordination in clapping in time. The nearly 2-year-old is an important year in behaviour, gross and fine motor skills.

2 to 3 years

Their hand grip is good for use with a pencil. They enjoy games and puzzles that require the eyes to guide the hands. Mat time fine-tunes these skills and helps lay the groundwork for the more challenging year ahead where laterality takes place.

3 to 4 years

Areas where instructions are required will now increase in complexity. Again, repetition is vital for their neural pathways to open up. We use team work and sensory motor stimulation on our large equipment to develop their sensory integration and laterality. Sitting in a group and following instructions are practised. They are also encouraged to perfect their abilities in cross patterning while they skip, hop skip, catch and throw. Also, early reading will be introduced in this class.
